Our History

1971 - 1989

•Dr. Sun Yiu Kwong founded his first clinic on Sha Tsui Road, Tsuen Wan.

•He later established medical centres in Tsim Sha Tsui, Sheung Wan and Wanchai, providing hotels and Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre nearby with comprehensive corporate medical services, which laid the foundation for UMP's expertise in corporate healthcare solutions.

1990 - 1995

•UMP Medical Practice was founded in Hong Kong, providing corporate and individual clients with medical and dental care services.

•An Executive Team was formally established for the design and implementation of corporate and individual healthcare schemes and for handling relevant administrative matters.

•Accredited by the Canadian Consulate as designated centres for medical examination for visa application.

1996 - 2000

•UMP Professional Management Limited was formally established to centrally manage corporate medical plans, dental care plans and customer service, and efficiently handle service settlement with clients.

•Launch of medical centres in Tsuen Wan, Kowloon Bay, Olympian City and Tung Chung which coincided with the development of new towns and accommodated the communities’ medical and healthcare needs.

•UMP’s medical network extended to Macau. 

•Accredited by the New Zealand and British Consulates, respectively as designated centres for medical examination for visa application.

•The UMP Medical Centre in Central was established in 2000, a forerunner of the Group’s current comprehensive network of medical centres. 

2001 - 2005

•UMP’s “eClaims” online platform was successfully developed to effectively handle insurance claims and manage corporate healthcare schemes, making UMP the very first medical group to link up with over 400 clinics via an online platform. 

•An outpatient clinic was set up in UMP Beijing Eaton Medical Centre to provide Mainland Chinese residents with visa medical examination and outpatient services.

•The Hong Kong flagship medical centre commenced operation in Central to offer one-stop outpatient, medical examination and dental care services.

2006 - 2010

•The Kowloon flagship medical centre commenced operation in Jordan to offer one-stop outpatient (general, specialist, imaging and laboratory service), medical examination and dental care services.

Jordan Specialist Medical Centre formally came into service. 

UMP Medical (Macau) acquired Metro International Clinic and set up its first medical centre in Macau, offering outpatient medical and dental services. 

Accredited by the Australian Consulate as designated centres for medical examination for visa application.

An  electronic health record system was introduced at all UMP medical centres, ensuring centralized and much more efficient handling and storage of medical records.

UMP became the first medical group to develop and adopt a medical voucher scanning system, which enables corporate members to conduct voucher searches and makes available full electronic voucher to facilitate highly efficient settlements between corporates and insurance companies.

ProCare MedTech was acquired, providing a comprehensive range of laboratory services.

2011 - 2014

•An outpatient clinic was founded at UMP Shanghai Eaton Medical Centre to provide the local community with visa medical examination and outpatient medical services. 

•Causeway Bay MRI Centre was established.

•UMP became the first medical group to launch its own mobile apps, “UMP服務點”, which allows corporate and insurance members to easily check the locations of its medical centres and other information.

•ProCare Medical Imaging and Laboratory Centre was opened in Causeway Bay to offer one-stop services including CT scans and medical laboratory tests. 

•Chow Tai Fook Group & UMP Phoenix were introduced into UMP as strategic shareholders. 

2015

•UMP was listed on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange with stock code  722 in November with an oversubscription rate over 15 times, showcasing investors’ confidence in the Group’s business strategies and future prospects.


2016

•The Group's first day surgery centre, 238 Day Surgery & Endoscopy Centre, was opened in Jordan to offer outpatient services including endoscopic examinations and procedures.

•The Shanghai flagship medical centre was founded to provide a multitude of general and specialist outpatient care, medical examination, as well as diagnostic imaging and laboratory services.

2017
•The General Practice-Oriented Learning and Development (GOLD™) training programme, designed and led by Hong Kong Family Medicine specialists, was initiated and developed for the training of family physicians elsewhere and to enhance the quality of primary medical care.
2018

The GOLD™ training programme was introduced in Panyu district, Guangzhou, and the first public-private partnership (PPP) UMP medical consultation room was set up at the Qiaonan Street Community Health Service Centre, Panyu.

Eight UMP medical centres in Beijing and Shanghai were accredited by the World Organization of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners/Family Physicians (WONCA).

SKP Medical Group, Health Network Medical Centre and Diagnostic Imaging Centre became a part of the UMP group.

The successful acquisition of SkinCentral made available a wide range of specialist dermatological services. 

Medical Imaging Centre and Diagnostic Imaging Centre in Central were acquired by UMP.

2019

•UMP pioneered the full implementation of electronic medical voucher throughout its network of medical centres, effectively streamlining the handling of claims for insurance and corporate clients and reducing paper use. 

•The GOLD™ training programme was accredited by Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), an assurance that the medical training standard and quality are in line with international standards.

•The UMP Medical Centre in Central was accredited by WONCA.

•The GOLD™ training programme was conducted in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Foshan and Tianjin. Local PPP UMP medical centres were set up in each city to extend the Group’s medicine network in the Greater Bay Area. In addition, GOLD™ has reached a strategic partnership with China Merchants to promote the training of medical practitioners and healthcare development.

•Acquired  AXON Scanning Centre, which, together with Medical Imaging Centre and Diagnostic Imaging Centre, offers a comprehensive range of imaging and laboratory services in Central district.

2020 - 2021

Newly occupied 3 full floors in Central with expanded gross floor area to 38,000 sq. ft.

14th Floor: General Practitioner, Dental, Preventive Healthcare & Assessment, Visa Medical Examination and the newly established WeWell Healthcare, a 360-degree, all-inclusive health management concierge services provider.

16th Floor: Specialist Practitioner, Procare Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Centre, and the newly established UMP Wellness & Metabolic Centre, a one-stop holistic services aimed at preventing, diagnosing, and treating age-related diseases and overall health and wellness management.

27th Floor: New expanded headquarter office lead by experienced senior management in business development & operation, clinic chain management, information technology, finance, legal & corporate development and people resources.

Our investment in ACTON Digital PET-CT Centre commenced operations with state-of-the-art PET-SCAN facilities.

We acquired further 75% interests in an MRI Centre located in Tsim Sha Tsui. We effectively integrate it into the UMP ecosystem (10 imaging and lab service points).
